Congress will also have to sacrifice in national politics: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Apr 25 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has once again raised her voice against the country's second largest party, Congress, while pitching in with the idea of federal front to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In an interview to a Bengali news channel, Banerjee said: "We want federal front and one to one fight in different states. Congress will have fall in line. If they join the federal front, they are welcome."

"Congress will have to sacrifice for other parties as well. Congress is not the only national party in the country. Trinamool Congress, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party are also national parties but they are also present in provinces."

Regarding the impeachment motion which was brought by the Congress-led opposition against Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Banerjee said she had supervised both Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Trinamool chief said she had asked both Sonia and Rahul not to bring the motion, which was later rejected by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

The Trinamool, which has been one of the strongest voice against the BJP in recent times, interestingly skipped the participation in the motion.

Justifying her stand, Banerjee said: "I do not support the impeachment motion. The opposition do not have any majority...."

The motion by the opposition came in the wake of the Supreme Court (SC) judgment on last Thursday, which dismissed the demand for an investigation into the death of CBI judge BH Loya.

The impeachment move has its genesis in the public complaint made by four senior judges of the top court- Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph-  that cases with far reaching consequences were assigned to selective judges.

Justice Chelameswar, who represented the four judges in an unprecedented press conference, said they had approached the CJI with a letter but failed to convince him.

Speaking about the judiciary, Banerjee said: "I can criticise judgement but not judge. There are so many cases in Bengal which go against me but I never intend to go against the judge."

Banerjee also broke her silence regarding the violence on the extended day of nomination filing for Bengal panchayat polls that the state had witnessed.

Trashing all allegations brought against the ruling Trinamool by the opposition parties, the CM said BJP, Left and Congress are working together and conspiring against the ruling party.

Ever since the poll dates have been announced by the SEC, the eastern state has witnessed widespread violence by the TMC and emerging principal opposition, the BJP.

The High Court has directed the SEC to issue a fresh date for the poll, which was earlier scheduled to be held on May 1, 3 and 5.

Panchayat poll in the state is significant as it is considered to be crucial for the General Elections, which will be held next in 2019.
