Jodhpur, Apr 25 (IBNS): Amid nationwide outcry over rapes, self-styled god-man Asaram Bapu, who was convicted for raping a minor girl, was on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment by a Jodhpur Court.

The 77-year-old self-styled godman was arrested in connection with the case in 2013 and has been in jail ever since.

He will now have to spend the rest of his natural life in prison.

Asaram will now be treated as a convict and not an undertrial at the Jodhpur Central Jail.

He won't be provided home-made food from now on and will have to wear prison clothes.

The court has also pronounced a jail term of 20 years each for two other accused.

Asaram has been held guilty for raping a 16-year old girl five years ago.

Security has been beefed up in the city by keeping in mind the verdict of the case.

Rajasthan Police have imposed section 144 in Jodhpur till April 30 as a precautionary measure, reports said.

No incident of violence has been reported so far.

Keeping the adverse situation of law and order, which occurred following Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's conviction in mind, no media persons were allowed inside the court room on Wednesday.

The self-styled godman runs 400 ashrams across the country.

Security has also been tightened across several states in India.
