SC asks Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu by Monday
New Delhi/Bengaluru, May 3 (IBNS): Th Supreme Court (SC) of India, on Thursday, asked the Karnataka government to release at least 4 tmc feet of water to Tamil Nadu for April and May by Monday, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, the Centre on Thursday informed the apex court that it was not able to frame the draft of Cauvery water sharing scheme between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as many of the ministers of the central government, including PM Naendra Modi, are travelling, reports said.
SC, on April 9, had given May 3 as the deadline to submit the draft scheme.
Irked by the Centre's failure to submit the draft, senior advocate Shekhar Naphade, for Tamil Nadu, accused the Centre of a “brazen attitude” and “playing politics” to favour the BJP’s fortune in the state, instead of governance, reported The Hindu.
On the other hand, Karnataka has claimed that it has already released an excess amount of water to Tamil Nadu, reports said.
