Met office issues thunderstorm warning for north India in next 72 hours

New Delhi, May 16 (IBNS): The Meteorological Department, on Wednesday afternoon, issued warning of dust storm across large parts of north India, including New Delhi, over the next 72 hours, according to media reports.

Economic Times quoted a weather notice as saying, "Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds (with speed 50-70 kms) very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh."

The met office in its mid-day report on Wednesday said that thunderstorm was observed   at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Rajasthan Interior Karnataka, Tamilnadu & Puducherry,  Assam & Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Sub­Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Kerala and Lakshadweep between 8.30 am of Tuesday and 8.30 am of Wednesday. 

On Sunday, at least 40 people were killed across India as thunderstorms and rain hit several parts of the nation..

Eighteen people were reportedly killed in Uttar Pradesh.

In New Delhi, the severe weather disrupted normal life on Sunday.

Deaths were also reported from other parts of the country.
