New Delhi, May 17 (IBNS): The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular)'s plea, which was brought against Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala's decision to invite Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Chief Ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa to take oath, at 1.45 am on Thursday.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi, who is advocating the Congress-JD(S) in the top court, tweeted, "Irrespective of merits, very gracious of SC to fix hearing at 145 pm (am) at ct no 2. Shows justice never sleeps & accessibility is 24x7, where merits so demand. Which apex court in world allows such accessibility?"

A bench of Justice AK Sikri, Justice A Bobde and Justice Ashok Bhushan will hear the case.

Ex-Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will defend the BJP in the case.

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will defend the union government.

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announcing that BS Yeddyurappa will take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Congress party had approached the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing.

They have approached Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra for an urgent hearing on Wednesday night itself.

The Congress have alleged that Karnataka Governor has shamed his office.

In a major political turn, the Karnataka unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday evening announced that its leader BS Yeddyurappa will be taking oath as the chief minister of the south Indian state on Thursday after governor Vajubhai Vala invited the party to form government.

The Governor gave BJP a period of 15 days to prove majority, said reports.

The oath taking ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9 am on Thursday.
