Patna, June 1 (IBNS): A Bihar court on Friday awarded life imprisonment to all the five men, convicted in the 2013 serial blasts in Bodh Gaya's Mahabodhi temple, reports said.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, headed by Justice Manoj Kumar Sinha had convicted all the five accused, stated to be Indian Mujahideen members, on May 25 pending the quantum of punishment.

Special Public Prosecutor Lalan Kumar Sinha had sought life imprisonment for all five convicts - Imtiyaz Ansari, Haider Ali, Mujib Ullah, Omair Siddiqui and Azharuddin Qureishi.

The serial blasts rocked Bodh Gaya on July 7, 2013. As per the NIA, the explosions aimed at killing Indian as well as foreign pilgrims, especially Buddhists, in a bid to create terror at Bihar's pilgrimage town. Five people, including two monks, were injured in the blast

Out of the 13 bombs that were planted, 9 or 10 were exploded while others were defused.

International figures, including the Dalai Lama, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Myanmar Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, condemned the attacks.
