Lucknow, Jun 19 (IBNS): At least four people have died as a massive fire engulfed parts of a famous hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow city on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, at least five others sustained injuries and were moved to the hospital.

Senior police officer Sujit Pandey told news outlet NDTV that over 50 people were evacuated.

"More than 50 people were rescued from the building. Cause of fire still not known. If we find any lapse on hotel's part during our investigation, we will take strict action against the people concerned," Pandey said.

After fighting the blaze for over two hours, firemen were able to control it, reports added.

The incident is believed to have taken place a little before 6 am on Tuesday.

The incident was condoled by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who directed his officials to assist the victims.

The outlet quoted firefighters as saying that the fire originated in the adjacent SSJ International Hotel and later spread to nearby facilities.
