Delhi metro to run as usual tomorrow with SC restraining staff from going on strike

New Delhi, June 29 (IBNS): The Delhi metro will continue its service as usual on Saturday with the Supreme Court restraining the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employees from going on a strike.

At least 9,000 non-executive employees had called for a strike of Metro services from midnight if their demands for promotions and pay hikes were not met by Friday.

The Supreme Court on Friday held an urgent hearing and observed that the proposed action of the metro staff was not justified or legal.

However, the DMRC employees said that they would continue their protests till their demands are met.

“We respect the high court’s order and will defer the strike but our protest will continue until our demands are met. We’ll keep providing services by sporting black bands as a mark of our protest. If our demands are not heard, our protests will go stronger,” DMRC Staff Council secretary Ravi Bhardwaj was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal noted that while demands of metro railways employees should be met, strike would cause inconvenience to lakhs of people.
