Kolkata, July 9 (IBNS): Police on Monday arrested a senior project manager of an international NGO for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman inside the NGO's office at Nirmal Chandra Street under Bowbazar Police Station limits in central Kolkata, reports said.

The woman alleged that she went to the NGO office with her female friend on Sunday late evening where a senior employee of Ethiopia based NGO, Operation Rescue-Childcare Projects, raped her.

"I suspect that my female friend, Baisakhi Karan Biswas, knew that I would be raped by NGO's senior project manager Sheikh Rajiv Hossain," the victim woman said.

"After Baisakhi informed me that the NGO, which mainly works for children education and welfare, was looking for a teacher and asked me to go there with her for an interview I agreed to go," she said. "There was none at the office except the project manager and Baisakhi left the office soon after we reached," she said.

The lady claimed that Hossain suddenly attacked her and raped her inside the office.

"I somehow managed to escape the building and when I informed Baisakhi about the incident, she suggested me to suppress the matter," she added.

Later at night, the woman lodged a complaint with Bowbazar Police Station against her friend and the NGO employee.

"The complaint has been converted into an FIR and a case has been registered under IPC section 376D (gang rape) as more than two persons were involved in the crime," a local police official told IBNS.

Arrested Sheikh Rajiv Hossain will be produced before a city court on Tuesday while another accused in the case, victim's friend Baisakhi Karan Biswas, is still absconding.

Earlier in August 2017, Operation Rescue, which has been running its operations in Ethiopia, Switzerland, and Brazil since 2000, entered India by setting up its sixth project centre in Kolkata.
