Meghalaya police recover huge cache of GNLA’s hidden arms-ammu
Guwahati, July 13 (IBNS): Meghalaya police on Friday morning made another huge haul of weapons from the north eastern state.
Meghalaya police had recovered huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives belonging to banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in East Garo Hills district, which were buried in the forest area by the outfit group.
According to the reports, based on intelligence input, a police team of East Garo Hills district hand launched operation at Bawegre and Dorengkigre area and recovered the arms and ammunition from the area.
“This time it was entirely with the support of the villagers that such a huge recovery was made possible. More and more villagers are coming forward to help the police in recovering the hidden weapons which would pose a serious threat to the safety and security of the people if they fell into the wrong hands,” East Garo Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) R Momin said.
Security personnel had recovered 347 rounds HMG ammunition, two AK Rifle body, one AK 56 rifle without magazine, four pistols, six pistol magazines, six shotgun cartridges, 52 numbers of 7.65 mm pistol ends, one Chinese grenade, 57 rounds of 7.62 SLR ammunition, 63 numbers of GNLA seals, four IED remote, one Wakie talkie, 9 Remote IED circuits, 28 numbers of electronic detonators, 7 bullet charger clips, 5 numbers of UBGL cells, one helmet, two numbers of SBBL shotgun, 485 rounds AK 47 ammunition, 104 rounds of .303 rifle, 2659 rounds of 7.7 mm rifle ammunition and 4 pieces of HMG stand.
On June 13 last, Meghalaya police had recovered one AK series rifle, two numbers of two inch mortar, two numbers of RPG with cover, one mortal shell, one RPG launcher, one HK 5.56 mm assault rifle, one land mine detonator cap, 12 numbers of pistol magazines, 153 rounds 5.56 mm ammunition, 55 numbers of remote bomb circuit, 94 rounds 7.62 mm ammunition, 11 numbers of bomb remote control, one walkie talkie set and 13 electronic detonators from the same remote area.
The East Garo Hills district SP further said that, efforts are still on to recover the hidden weapons.
After killing of Sohan D Shira, C-in-C of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Meghalaya police is now trying to crack down the insurgent group and recovering arms, ammunition and explosives of the outfit.
On May 13 last, Meghalaya police had recovered 4 RPG rockets, one 7.62 LMG, two 7.62 LMG barrels, one .303 LMG barrels, one G3 rifle, 90 rounds of rifle ammunition, four charger clips from Bawegre village area, which were buried by the suspected GLNA militants.
On April 9, Meghalaya Police recovered 30 pistols with 44 pistol magazines, 2 AK46, 1 LMG and 2 magazines, 1 INSAS and 2 magazines, 44 SLR magazines, 1 AK magazine, 60 SLR live rounds, 7 walky talkie sets along with more items in East Garo Hills district.
Apart from it, the East Garo Hills district police had recovered 2038 rounds of 7.62 AK ammunition, 60 rounds of 9mm, 1087 rounds of 7.7mm, 320 rounds of HMG ammunition, 10 numbers remote circuit for IED, two remote controls, 16 numbers charger clips and 4 ammunition boxes on April 11 last.
