Family alleges foul play in Delhi air hostess' 'suicide'

New Delhi, July 16 (IBNS): A 32-year old Air Hostess has committed 'suicide' by allegedly jumping off the terrace of her home in south Delhi's Panchsheel Park, media reports said.

However, the family of Anissia Batra, the deceased, has alleged foul play and demanded action against her husband and inlaws.

Anissia used to work for Lufthansa Airlines.

Her husband Mayank Singhvi told the police that he received a text message from his wife, prior to her death, which informed him of her taking an 'extreme step'.

Mayank said, immediately after receiving the text message, he went to the terrace but by then his wife had jumped off.

Anissia was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Days before her death, Anissia's father, Major Gen (Retd) RS Batra, had filed a complaint with the police saying his daughter was being tortured by her husband and his family.

Anissia's brother Karan Batra said his sister had contacted with her family before she died.

Karan said Anissia asked them to contact police.

Anissia's brother has been quoted by NDTV as saying, "...because of him my life is going to go, please don't leave him,' she wrote. We don't know if he pushed her or she jumped, but we have been trying to get them arrested and police aren't helping."

The family alleged that she was being tortured since her marriage two years ago.
