Rahul Gandhi's hug, wink keep Twitter buzzing
New Delhi, July 20 (IBNS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi made a unique gesture in the Parliament on Friday when he went ahead to hug Prime Minister Narendra Modi on day when the Lok Sabha was debating on the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition.
In the video of the gesture by Gandhi, which has now gone viral on social media, Modi could be seen apparently left surprised by the Congress president with his sudden and unexpected move.
But not only was the PM amused by it, even the world of Twitter remained crazily buzzing all over the day on the issue.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor remarked: "What an astonishing performance by @RahulGandhi. It was a game-changing speech, tearing apart the Govt ’s claims & ending with that unscripted hug that has literally taken the BJP’s breath away #BhukampAaGaya."
Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah said: " It’s going to be one of those days. We had the hug & now the wink seems to have stolen a march on the hug. I’m almost afraid to ask what’s next."
He also attacked the Centre and said :"Jokes aside has anyone reminded the government of the total mess they have made of the situation in J&K over the last 4 years? #Noconfidancemotion #Parliament #LokSabha."
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, the son of jailed former chief minister Lalu Yadav, remarked: " Oh that wink my friend! Hit them hard where it hurts..Congratulations for unearthing their mines of lies & a fantastic speech @RahulGandhi."
Apart from giving Modi a bear hug, Gandhi also caught attention across the nation by winking at one of his colleagues during the debate in the Parliament over the no-confidence motion moved by the opposirtion.
Prior to his hug, Rahul said he would convert Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) into the Congress.
Rahul said: "The PM, the BJP and the RSS may call me pappu or slang me with any other word but I have no grudge against them."
"I thank Modi, the BJP and the RSS for making me understand the meaning of the Congress, teaching me my religion and Hinduism."
Targetting Modi directly during his speech, Rahul Gandhi said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lied about the facts of the Rafale deal and a secrecy clause with France under pressure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chandrababu Naidu's TDP has brought the no-confidence motion, demanding a special status for Andhra Pradesh.
The Congress is supporting the motion.
