Alwar, July 21 (IBNS): Just days after the Supreme Court's condemnation of acts of mob lynchings in the name of cow protection, a man has been beaten to death in Rajasthan's Alwar on suspicion of cow smuggling, media reports said.

The police have identified the deceased as Akbar Khan.

Reports said two men were taking a couple of cows from their native Kolganv village in Haryana to Ramgarh, when the incident took place.

The deceased succumbed to his injuries after he and the other man were thrashed by the villagers in Ramgarh, who caught the duo with the cows.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court came down hard on such incidents and said mobocracy cannot be allowed to become a new norm in the country, media reports said.

"Horrendous acts of mobocracy cannot be allowed to become a new norm and has to be curbed with iron hands" the court said.

The top court has urged the parliament to formulate laws to prevent such attacks in the name of cow protection. It said the state also has a duty to ensure order and prevent mobocracy.

The apex court has asked the states and the Union Territories to come with a compliance report within four weeks.
