Kolkata, July 21 (IBNS): Hours after Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee announced to hold a mass meeting in Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground on Jan 19, 2019 to promote anti-BJP campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha election, West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday evening called for a counter-rally at the same venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be present as the chief speaker.

BJP leaders said that the proposed mega rally will be held at Brigade Parade Ground on Jan 23, four days after TMC's assemblage.

During a press conference here at Bengal BJP headquarter in Kolkata, National Secretary of the party, Rahul Sinha, said, "Mamata Banerjee today announced to hold a Brigade rally in January next year and BJP is not seating quietly."

"BJP will hold Rath Yatra across West Bengal and the yatra will be concluded with a proposed mega rally at Brigade Parade Ground on January 23, four days after Mamata's Brigade meeting, where Narendra Modi will be present as chief speaker," Sinha added.

Earlier in the afternoon, blowing the bugle of Lok Sabha poll 2019, Mamata Banerjee said from Shahid Divas programme's stage that BJP won't return to power in 2019 and TMC will celebrate its victory in July 21 rally in 2020 as the party will win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal.

Countering Banerjee's statement, Rahul Sinha said, "This was probably the final Shahid Divas rally of TMC as I believe the party will go invisible after Lok Sabha election in 2019 and therefore none will be there to hold the rally in 2020."

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed her Trinamool Congress party's Martyr's Day rally in Kolkata on Saturday.
