Alwar lynching: Rahul Gandhi takes dig at Modi's 'New India' over cops' alleged foul play
New Delhi, July 23 (IBNS): In the wake of reports of the cops' alleged foul play leading to the death of Rakbar Khan, who was lynched on suspicion over cow-smuggling in Rajasthan's Alwar, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "New India".
Rahul tweeted, "Policemen in #Alwar took 3 hrs to get a dying Rakbar Khan, the victim of a lynch mob, to a hospital just 6 KM away. Why? They took a tea-break enroute. This is Modi’s brutal “New India” where humanity is replaced with hatred and people are crushed and left to die."

Reports said two men including Rakbar were taking a couple of cows from their native Kolganv village in Haryana to Ramgarh, when the incident took place.
According to NDTV, police kept Rakbar in their custody for more than three hours before taking him to a hospital.
The policemen first arranged to ferry the cow and then went to have refreshments, the report said.
Though Rakbar was complaining of pain, the policemen were having tea from a nearby stall, it said.
When the victim was taken to a hospital finally, he was declared dead on arrival.
Naval Kishore, a right-wing supporter, who had called up police first after the lynching incident, told media that police had initially taken Rakbar into custody where the victim was beaten to death.
The incident occurred just days after the Supreme Court's condemnation of acts of mob lynchings in the name of cow protection.
In the last week, the Supreme Court came down hard on such incidents and said mobocracy cannot be allowed to become a new norm in the country, media reports said.
"Horrendous acts of mobocracy cannot be allowed to become a new norm and has to be curbed with iron hands" the court had said.
The top court has urged the parliament to formulate laws to prevent such attacks in the name of cow protection. It said the state also has a duty to ensure order and prevent mobocracy.
