Guwahati police arrest four car lifters including a constable

Guwahati, July 25 (IBNS): Guwahati city police have arrested four car lifters including an Assam police constable from Pathar Quarry area in the city.

According to the reports, the four persons including a police constable, who worked in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam police, entered into the premise of a newly opened showroom of used car at Pathar Quarry area in the city and tried to steal a vehicle.

When the security guard of the showroom noticed it, he immediately informed the employees of the showroom and also to police.

Police reached the area soon and arrested the four accused.

Among the arrested persons, two are hailing from Manipur.

The arrested persons were identified as Humen Baruah (CID constable), Haobam Kiyamba, Indra Kumar (both are from Manipur) and Majmal Ali.

Guwahati city police have registered a case (431/2018) under sections 379/511 of IPC at Noonmati police station.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Purabi Mazumdar said that, they were informed that, few persons entered into the premises of Carnesh Car Parking, a newly opened showroom of used cars at Pathar Quarry.

“We immediately rushed to the area and arrested four persons. They were planning to steal a vehicle from the showroom. Out of these four, one person is a constable and is working in CID,” Purabi Mazumdar said.

Meanwhile, police produced them at a local court in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The court has sent the accused to police custody.
