Visva-Bharati: Victim decides to quit university
Kolkata, Sept 12 (IBNS): The first year-student, who was allegedly molested in the West Bengal's iconic Visva Bharati University by three senior students, has decided to quit the university, media reports said.
The victim is currently completing exit formalities.
The police on Aug 30 arrested three students who allegedly sexually harassed the girl.
The girl had alleged that three senior students of the university had sexually harassed and then took obscene photographs of her.
The university earlier negated the victim's father's allegation that the institution had discouraged him from going to the police.
The university, however, negated the allegation.
University Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Datta Gupta told NDTV: "I got to know of the ghastly incident yesterday. The matter has immediately been referred to the sexual harassment committee".
"Depending on the sexual harassment committee's findings, legal action will be taken," he said.
Visva-Bharati University is one of India's major Central government funded autonomous university located in Santiniketan, West Bengal.
It was founded by world poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
