New Delhi, July 27 (IBNS): India is all set to witness the longest lunar eclipse on Friday.
The full eclipse will span over a duration of six hours.
However, the total lunar eclipse 2018 - when the moon will be in the middle of Earth's shadow - will last for 1 hour and 43 minutes.
The moon on Friday will be at the farthest point from Earth in its orbit. As a result the moon will appear smaller in size than regular.
The total lunar eclipse will be the longest on Friday until the next century.
The next such lunar eclipse will take place on June 9, 2123.
According to reports, the total lunar eclipse on Friday is also termed as 'Blood Moon' as the moon will turn reddish owing to the lack of direct sunlight on it.
The sunlight will be guarded by Earth and the moon will reflect only the sunlight scattered by the Earth's atmosphere.
India along with the Middle East, southern China, and eastern Africa will have the best view of the lunar eclipse.
In India, one can be a witness to the lunar eclipse at 11:44 pm IST on Friday night.
However, a deep concern remains that whether people in metro cities would be able to watch the eclipse due to heavy pollution and clouds.
But the countryside is expected to get a clearer sight of this eclipse which will occur again after a century.
