Chennai, July 30 (IBNS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam met M Karunanidhi at Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Monday and offered the latter medical assistance as the DMK chief is ailing for months.

After meeting Karunanidhi, Palaniswami told reporters that the DMK chief is in a stable condition now.

Both the AIADMK leaders also praised the 94-year-old as a leader of Tamils.

"His condition is stable now. I met his family members as well," Palaniswami told reporters outside the hospital.

The doctors attending to the veteran political leader also said that his condition is normalising.

Meanwhile, a sea of supporters and well wishers have gathered outside the hospital praying for Karunanidhi's health.

As a result, hundreds of police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward situation.

The supporters reportedly refused to leave despite appeal from Karunanidhi's son and DMK acting chief MK Stalin.

Karunanidhi is suffering from urinary tract infection. He was admitted to hospital on July 18 for a change of tracheostomy tube, said reports.

Several important personalities and political leaders including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan visited the five times Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
