Huge honour for me: Navjot Singh Sidhu on Imran Khan's swearing-in ceremony invitation
New Delhi, Aug 2 (IBNS): Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has said that he feels honoured to have received a personal invitation from Pakistan's Prime Minister-elect Imran Khan for the latter's swearing-in ceremony in Islamabad.
Sidhu, a former international cricketer, who rubbed shoulders with Khan during their playing days, was quoted by ANI news agency as saying: "It's a huge honour for me. It's a personal invitation [for Imran Khan's swearing in] from him and not a political one."
He added that though he respects India's sentiments pertaining to attending events in Pakistan, he is treating it as a personal invitation and hence will act accordingly.
"I respect the foreign policy of the Govt and the country, but this is a personal invitation [Imran Khan's swearing in]. I believe sports persons and artists break barriers," the agency quoted Sidhu as saying.
Khan, whose Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the recently concluded elections, albeit sans majority, invited his Indian colleagues, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Navjot Singh Sidhu and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan to his oath taking ceremony.
The event is scheduled for Aug 11.
