Congress discusses Rafale deal in working committee's meeting

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IBNS): One of the key issues which popped up in the Congress Working Committee (CWC)'s meeting on Saturday was the Rafale deal, which has been marred into a massive controversy.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted to say, "One of the highlights of today’s CWC meeting, was Mr Antony’s brilliant description of the Rafale robbery: 130,000 Cr. stolen from the people of India and given to a friend who was 45,000 crore in debt."

A huge face-off between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress occured recently in the parliament with Rahul alleging that the present government inked the Rafale deal to benefit a particular industrialist.

Also the Congress president had said the BJP government bought 36 Rafale jets from France at a price higher than that was fixed during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime.

The Congress has also termed the Rafale deal as a scam by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

The country's principal opposition country even demanded a full breakup of the price at which the deal was signed. However, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had denied to reveal the details owing to the secrecy of the pact.

Along with the Rafale deal, the CWC meeting also touched upon issues like political situation of the country, alleged corruption and failures of the BJP government.

In an early tweet, Rahul had said: "The CWC met today. As a team, we discussed the political situation in the country & the huge opportunity for the Congress to highlight issues of corruption and failure of the government to provide jobs to our youth. Thank you to all those who attended today’s meeting."
