It is easy to criticise, attack and destroy system, says CJI Misra on senior judges' dissent
New Delhi, Aug 15 (IBNS): Months after the dissent by four senior Supreme Court judges, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra broke his silence on Wednesday.
In an unprecedented press conference, four sitting judges of the Supreme Court had targeted Chief Justice Dipak Misra alleging that the rules have not been followed in assigning cases.
In an address on the occasion of the Independence Day, Justice Misra said, as he has been quoted by NDTV, "(to) criticize, attack and destroy a system is quite easy... what is difficult and challenging is to transform it to a performing one."
"Positive and concrete reforms must be undertaken with responsibility," he added.
Justice Misra made the comment after hoisting the Indian flag in the Supreme Court premises.
In a virtual revolt against the CJI, the four senior judges had said they had approached Justice Misra with a complaint letter but failed to convince him.
The judges had stated in the letter to the CJI that cases with far reaching consequences were assigned selectively.
When asked whether they propose an impeachment of the CJI or not, the judges had said: "It is the nation which will decide."
One of the four senior judges of the SC, Justice Jasti Chelameswar, had said: "Democracy cannot survive without free judiciary."
"We had no option left but to address the media. This is a historic event." he had added.
