Israeli PM Netanyahu sends condolence to Modi on Atal Bihari Vajpayee's demise
New Delhi, Aug 22 (IBNS): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has written to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to send his condolences on the demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In his letter, to PM Modi, Netanyahu stated: "On behalf of the people of Israel, I send our sincere condolences on the passing of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee."
Netanyahu said Vajpayee was able to strengthen India's security and its position in the world by forging important ties with other countries.
"Mr. Vajpayee was a central figure in Indian politics for decades. He fought for India's independence, and served the country in many positions. It was as foreign minister and prime minister that he was able to strengthen India's security and its position in the world by forging important ties with other countries. His reforms to India's economy improved the lives of millions," the statement said.
Netanyahu said that as prime minister, Vajpayee helped advance relations between Israel and India, overseeing the crucial first stage in expanding the ties, a process which has grown exponentially under Modi's tenure.
"As you so fittingly put it, Mr. Vajpayee's passing symbolizes the end of an era. Please convey my sympathies to Ms. Bhattachariya and her family," the Israeli PM said. .
Vajpayee, a three-time Prime Minister of India, a Bharat Ratna and a stalwart of Indian politics who represented the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Aug 16. He was 93.
