India declines financial aid from UAE for Kerala flood relief

| @indiablooms | 23 Aug 2018, 04:58 pm

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IBNS): Even as the Kerala government is ready to accept the aid from the United Arab Emirates, the Centre has made it clear that India would not take financial support from any foreign country for relief operations in the southern state ravaged by floods.

In a statement available with media, the MEA spokesperson said, while India appreciates the help offers from different countries, its existing policy states that the government should meet the requirements for relief and rescue operations through domestic efforts.

This comes after the UAE government offered Rs 700 crore financial assistance for the relief operations in Kerala.

Quoting sources, different media channels on Wednesday night reported that India would not accept help from any foreign governments.

However, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government will try to resolve such problems with the Centre at the official level.

If need be, he would also take it up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, media reports quoting the Kerala CM stated.

Besides UAE, Maldives, Thailand and Qatar have also expressed desire to help India in  rehabilitation of the victims of the flood ravaged state.
