BJP politicising Atal Bihari Vajpayee's death for electoral gains, alleges his niece

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IBNS): A week after Atal Bihar Vajpayee's demise, his niece on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is politicising the former prime minister's death for electoral gains in 2019 polls.

Speaking to News18 channel, niece Karuna Shukla said: "The BJP is selfish and doing politics in the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Using his name, they are prepping for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls."

Shukla alleged that BJP used his name for the party's gains during the lifetime and is now banking on his death for the upcoming electoral gains.

Vajpayee, a three-time Prime Minister of India, a Bharat Ratna and a stalwart of Indian politics who represented the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Aug 16.  He was 93.

His last rites were performed in New Delhi on Aug 17.

The ashes of the former PM are being immersed in rivers across the country where different prominent leaders of BJP are participating in the Asthi Kalash Yatra.
