UAE says no official announcement made over financial aid to Kerala

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IBNS): Amid reports that Centre declined foreign aid for Kerala relief, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has informed that they are yet to announce any donations for the flood ravaged state.

This comes after reports claimed that the UAE government had offered Rs 700 crore financial assistance for the relief operations in Kerala.

However, UAE embassy officials claimed that the country has so far not made an official announcement of any financial assistance to India.

They might come up with a plan to extend financial help to India next week.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last week said that UAE has decided to give Rs.700 crore as help to the flood ravaged state.

Days after this announcement, the Centre on Wednesday made it clear that India would not take financial support from any foreign country for relief operations in the southern state ravaged by floods.

In a statement available with media, the MEA spokesperson had said, while India appreciates the help offers from different countries, its existing policy states that the government should meet the requirements for relief and rescue operations through domestic efforts.
