Goods train derails near Guwahati, rail communication disrupted
Guwahati, Aug 25 (IBNS) : At least 20 wagons of a goods train derailed near Panbari railway station on the outskirts of Guwahati on Saturday snapping rail communication between a large portion of the north-east and the rest of the country.
The incident took place at around 11-30 am in between Panbari and Digaru railway stations. The goods train was heading for Guwahati from Lumding.
There are no reports of casualty in the accident, the cause of which is being ascertained.
The accident caused disruption in rail communication in Upper Assam and Barak Valley, neighbouring Manipur and Tripura, with rest of the country.
A top official of Northeast Frontier Railway said all passenger trains coming to Guwahati and to Upper Assam, Barak Valley have been controlled at different railway stations.
Railway engineers and workers are at work to restore the track.
