National Sports Day: PM Modi pays tribute to Dhyan Chand Singh
New Delhi, Aug 29 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid his tribute to legendary hockey player late Dhyan Chand Singh on the latter's birthday, which is celebrated as the National Sports Day in the country.
Modi tweeted, "Greetings to all sports enthusiasts on National Sports Day. Tributes to the phenomenal hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand Ji on his birth anniversary.
I urge people to give priority to sports and fitness related activities, which will contribute towards a healthier India."

Dhyan Chand Singh won gold medals in Olympics for India in 1928, 1934 and 1936.
He scored 400 goals in his 22-year career.

Major Dhyan Chand Award, the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports in India, has been named after him.
