Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 29 (IBNS): On the second day of his two-day visit to flood-hit Kerala, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he is sad that the central government didn't provide enough aid to the people of the southern state.

While addressing a press conference, the Congress president blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre for not giving sufficient aid to the state.

Rahul said: "I would have liked frankly that the extent of support that the central government had given be more.

"I think central government should give more support to Kerala. It is their right. I am sad that the central government didn't give as much aid as they should."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly announced a financial aid of Rs 500 crore to the state.

Modi also had announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to kins of the deceased.

Kerala has been badly hit by floods in recent times.

More than 400 people have been killed in the incident.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has lost Rs 20,000 crore approximately due to the flood.

Rahul, who visited several relief camps on Tuesday, said he didn't come to Kerala to politicise the flood issue but to meet the survivors.

The Congress chief said he felt there is a feeling among people that they are not getting the compensation amount for the flood. "The compensation amount must be delivered immediately," he said.

Sending out a message to the CPI-M government in the state, Rahul said: "It is very important for the government to give a sense to the people that their houses will be re-built. "

The Congress chief also said he has directed his party to help the sufferers as much as they can staying within jurisdiction.
