Amid 36-hour Assam bandh youth receive burn injures
Guwahati, Aug 30 (IBNS): A youth received serious burn injuries on Thursday as protesters set tyres on fire during the 36-hour Assam bandh called by the All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRASU).
The incident took place at Naokata area in Assam’s Baksa district on Thursday.
The youth received burn injuries while the supporters of AKRASU were burning the tyre.
The injured youth was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.
The bandh was called to support of the demands for the creation of separate ‘Kamatapur’ state and inclusion of the Koch-Rajbongshi community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
The protesters blocked the roads by burning tyres in Baksa, Goalpara, Dhubri, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Morigaon districts.
All markets and business establishments were closed and vehicles remained off the roads during the bandh, disrupting normal life.
A top leader of the student organisation said that, "The government has cheated us and not fulfilled our genuine demands."
“We have called the 36-hour bandh to protest against the government act. If our demands are not be fulfilled, we will intensify the movement to fulfill our demands,” the AKRASU leader said.
