CJI Dipak Misra recommends Justice Gogoi as his successor in letter to government
New Delhi, Sept 4 (IBNS): In a letter to the central government, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on Tuesday recommended Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor, media reports said.
CJI Misra will retire from his post on Oct 2.
It is customary for the outgoing CJI to recommend a name to the central government within 30 days before he is to demit office.
Justice Gogoi is the senior most judge of the top court after CJI Misra.
The CJI will retire on Oct 2. As Oct 2 is a national holiday on the birthday of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, a day ago will be CJI Misra's last working day.
Justice Gogoi was one of the four senior Supreme Court judges who had held an unprecedented press conference early this year, in a virtual revolt against the CJI.
The judges had voiced their displeasure over the CJI's assigning of cases with far reaching consequences selectively.
