Congress calls Bharat Bandh on Sept 10 to protest fuel price hike
New Delhi, Sept 7 (IBNS): The Congress on Thursday called a Bharat Bandh on Sept 10 to protest the rise in petrol and diesel prices, media reports said.
The political outfit claimed the nationwide shutdown between 9 am and 3 pm was being supported by several opposition parties.
Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel has been quoted by The Hindu as saying, "As far as support from other Opposition parties are concerned, most of them have expressed support. Trinamool has said they will support the agitations but wont give a bandh call.
"We are yet to talk to the Bahujan Samaj Party and a few other smaller parties with whom we will speak tonight. But we are hopeful that everyone will support."
The petrol and diesel prices in several metropolitan cities continued to rise even on Friday.
In Delhi, petrol prices rose by Rs. 0.48/litre to Rs. 79.99/litre.
In Mumbai, petrol prices increased by Rs. 0.48/litre to Rs. 87.39/litre.
Diesel prices rose to Rs. 72.07/litre (up by Rs. 0.52/litre) in Delhi while Rs. 76.51/litre (up by Rs. 0.55/litre) in Mumbai.
This is the second consecutive day after Sept 5.
