Election chief expresses displeasure over KCR supremo Rao's early Telangana poll move
New Delhi, Sept 7 (IBNS): The Election Commission has expressed displeasure over CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's party's move of pushing for early Assembly polls in Telangana.
On Thursday, Rao recommended dissolution of the state Assembly.
"KCR's comments on elections are preposterous and uncalled for," Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat told NDTV
"We are mandated by the Supreme Court to conduct elections at the earliest possible and there should be no delay," he said.
Rawat said: "We shouldn't allow a caretaker government to take the opportunity of delaying elections."
The Telangana Chief Minister met Governor ESL Narasimhan and informed him of the cabinet's decision to dissolve the state Assembly. The cabinet meeting took place in the afternoon.
The Governor accepted his recommendation. As a result of the move, the election will be preponed to the end of this year from the middle of 2019, as was originally scheduled.
The term of the Telangana Assembly ends in May next year.
The TRS on Thursday even announced a list of 105 candidates for Telangana elections, media reports said.
The Election Commission on Friday will decide whether polls in the southern state can be held by the end of the year, media reports said.
