Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 09 (IBNS): The body of a 54-year-old nun was found in the well of a convent in Kerala on Sunday creating a sensation in the southernmost Indian state which recently witnessed reporting of crimes against women involving the Christian clerics.

Media reports said Susan Mathew was found in the well of the convent at Pathanapuram in Kannur, which is about 80 km from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Police said they are probing the case while one report said bloodied clothes and parts of cut hair were found at the scene at Tabor Convent.

Sister Susan Mathew was a teacher at Mount Tabor School in the convent which is run by the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church, based in Kottayam.

In one recent incident, four priests of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church have been accused of sexually exploiting a married woman allegedly by blackmailing her making use of the secret confession she made to them on separate occasions.

Recently, the Bishop of Jalandhar was accused by a nun in Kottayam district of Kerala of raping her on several occasions between 2014 and 2016. The nun filed a complaint with the police on June 27.
