Telangana bus accident leaves 51 dead

Hyderabad, Sept 11 (IBNS): At least 51 people were killed as a bus, in which they were travelling, lost control and dropped in a gorge on the Kondagattu ghat road in Jagtial district on Tuesday.

The bus mishap involved a  Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus.

According to reports, the injured people were shifted to Jagtial Area Hospital.

Several passengers, including children, died at the spot of the accident.

The bus, belonging to the Jagtial depot, had more than 60 passengers, who reportedly came to the hillock temple at Kondagattu, reported The Hindu.

Initial reports said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle at the third sharp curve, resulting in the bus plunging into the gorge, as per the newspaper report.

Senior government officials reached the spot after the mishap.

Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao expressed his sadness over the loss of lives in the incident.

He has announced Rs. 5 lakhs ex-gratia to the family members of the deceased, reported The Hindu.

Politicians condole:

President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted: "Shocked to learn about the bus accident in Jagtial, Telangana. Thoughts with the bereaved families and those injured. I understand local authorities are making efforts to rescue and help passengers who have suffered #PresidentKovind."

BJP chief Amit Shah remarked: "Anguished to learn about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Telangana's Jagtial district. I have spoken to the local BJP unit and asked them to join the rescue operation. My deepest condolences with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon."
