Guwahati, Sept 17 (IBNS): Former Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Baruah, who was under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner in connection with the Saradha scam, committed suicide at his residence in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Guwahati city police SSP Ananda Prakash Tiwari said the ex-DGP shot himself using a revolver.

Baruah, a 1974 batch IPS officer, was admitted to hospital twice after the CBI raided his residence at Uzanbazar area in Guwahati on Aug 28 in connection with the multi-crore Saradha scam.

''Baruah committed suicide using a revolver after he reached his residence from hospital,'' a top police official said.

He had been admitted to hospital for the last three days and was released on Wednesday morning.

''He was suffering from depression after the CBI raided at his residence,'' a top police official said.

The CBI raided the premises of the Ex-Assam DGP, former ministers and present Congress MLA Dr Himanta Biswa Sarmah, Anjan Dutta and other 11 locations in Assam on Aug 28.

The investigating agency had arrested Assamese filmmaker-singer Sadananda Gogoi in connection with the scam.
