Six people electrocuted in pond in Assam

Guwahati, Sept 21(IBNS) : At least six people, including a minor boy, died of electrocution in central Assam’s Nagaon district on Friday morning.

The incident took place at Khatualgaon village under Juria police station when an 11,000-volt snapped electric wire fell into a pond where some locals were fishing and bathing.

People, who were nearby, immediately cut off the electricity and engaged themselves in rescue operation.

Six people died on the spot and five others were injured.

Following the incident, angry villagers vandalised a local electricity office.

The deceased persons were identified as Inamul Haque, Rafikul Islam, Moinul Haque, Habibur Rehman, Anisur Rehman and Anzarul Islam.

The injured persons have been rushed to Nagaon civil hospital.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and directed the state Power minister Tapan Kumar Gogoi to take stock of  the situation.
