Assam police bust LPG stealing racket, arrest at least two persons from Karimganj district

Guwahati, Sep 29 (IBNS): Assam police on Friday night busted an LPG stealing racket in Barak Valley’s Karimganj district and arrested at least two persons.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Karimganj district police had launched an operation near Nilambazar area and caught two persons red handed, who had stolen gas from sealed LPG cylinders and filled the empty cylinders with the stolen gas.

Police also seized two LPG cylinders laden trucks.

When the police team reached the spot, 10 others, including the drivers of the trucks, had managed to fled the area.

Karimganj district Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) James Sangate said that the gang had stolen gas from sealed LPG cylinders and refilled it by water and it has continued since long.

“After receiving the information, we immediately launched the operation and spotted two gas cylinder laden trucks parked near National Highway – 8. When we reached the spot, the gang were stealing gas and filling empty cylinders with it,” James Sangate said.

The police official said that, the trucks came from Cachar Borkhola LPG plant to Agartala in Tripura.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case at Karimganj police station and launched operation to nab other members of the gang.

During the preliminary police interrogation, the arrested person have revealed that they sold the cylinders filled with stolen gas in open market and also prepared 250 fake beneficiary cards.
