Hyderabad: NRI arrested for raping woman whom he converted to Islam
Hyderabad, Sept 30 (IBNS): A Non-Residential Indian, based in Dubai, has been arrested from Hyderabad by the police for allegedly converting a woman to Islam and then raping her.
The Rachakonda Police has arrested the accused Safdar Abbas Zaidi.
According to media reports, the accused met the victim when they were working in a software company in Hyderabad.
After Zaidi shifted to Dubai, the victim also moved to the city.
Zaidi reportedly promised to marry her.
The woman converted to Islam as was asked by Zaidi, reports said.
"Even both of their families agreed for their marriage and it was fixed for April this year. However, a few months back, some rift broke out between the couple which led to the cancellation of the wedding,'' Circle Inspector of Malkajgiri told India Today.
The victim's family alleged that Zaidi cheated her to convert to Islam.
“She was only allowed to go out wearing a burqa, with her face covered, and she was forced to follow all the Islamic traditions and rituals. The more she pleaded, the more he forced her,” said a family member of the victim told Deccan Chronicle.
The accused reportedly sexually assaulted the victim many times.
Based on the complaint, police have booked a case under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 417 (punishment for cheating) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and had issued a lookout notice against, reported India Today.
The accused was arrested on Friday when he arrived at Hyderabad airport.
He has been sent to judicial custody.
