Amid boycott by NC and PDP, voting for J&K's first phase civic polls concludes

Srinagar, Oct 8 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir on Monday voted for the first phase of civic polls amid boycott by the two key parties in the Valley-National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party. 

While Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation area recorded 61.92 percent polling, MC Khour witnessed the highest polling of 89 percent.

Voting was held in 422 of the state's 1,100 municipal wards.

Heavy security was in force in the entire state.

According to reports, Kargil witnessed a 73.6 percent while Poonch, Rajouri, Leh and Jammu recorded 63.5 percent, 67.6 percent, 44.2 percent and 43.4 percent respectively.

The fate of about 2,990 candidates are in the fray for the four-phased election.

Voting for all phases will end on October 16.

On Monday, polling began at 7 am and ended at 4 pm.
