North Indians are not foreigners: Mayawati on Gujarat violence
New Delhi, Oct 9 (IBNS): In the wake of attacks on north Indians and Biharis, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said Gujarat government should take strict action against those involved in the incident because north Indians are "not foreigners".
Speaking to ANI, Mayawati said: "There is no point of accusing each other. North Indians are not foreigners; they are citizens of our country. I appeal to the Gujarat government to take stringent action against the accused instead of doing politics on this matter."
On Oct 5-6, non-Gujaratis, especially those hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were allegedly attacked.
This came after a native of Bihar was arrested on accusations of allegedly raping a 14-month-old girl in Sabarkantha district.
Following the arrest, violence spread across the state leading to many leaving the Gujarat.
State chief minister Vijay Rupani tweeted: "We are working hard to ensure trust & confidence among all citizens that they are safe & secure in Gujarat, instead of indulging in blame game."

He also blamed the Congress party of spreading violence and then criticising the same on Twitter.
Tweeted Rupani: "Congress first incites violence against Migrants.
Congress President tweets to condemn this violence.
Does the Congress President not have any shame?"

Attacking Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Rupani wrote: "If the Congress President is against the violence in Gujarat, he needs to take action against its own members who incited violence against the migrants in Gujarat.
Tweeting is not the solution, taking action is! But will he act?"
