NIA registers case after Hizbul terrorists arrested in Assam

Guwahati, Oct 10 (IBNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday registered a case and started investigation into the case of arresting Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Assam. 

A top official of NIA said the premier investigating agency has already registered a case taken over the investigation into the matter after arresting Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Assam.

It is to be mentioned that, Qamar-uz-Zaman, a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist arrested by the Lucknow Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from Kanpur on Sept 12.

Qamar-uz-Zaman, who failed in his BA third year examination, went missing in 2017 until April 2018, but he had undergone training in Pakistan in 2017 and he had taken arms training under ISIS and joined Hizbul Mujahideen.

After arrest of Qamar-uz-Zaman, Assam police had arrested eight Hizbul operatives from several areas of the state.

Assam police have already arrested eight suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists including Qamar-uz-Zaman’s childhood friend 39-year-old Shahnawaz Alam, his elder brother Saiful Islam.

The top NIA official said that, the investigating agency will investigate all round of corners of the terrorist group and their activities.

Earlier, Assam police had taken Qamar-uz-Zaman into their custody and NIA would likely to take him into their custody on Thursday.

Assam police Special DG (Special Branch) Pallav Bhattacharya said that, Assam police brought him from Uttar Pradesh police on a transit remand and have to take him back to Uttar Pradesh for production in court on Oct 11.

“NIA will take over the investigation from October 11,” the top Assam cop said.

During the police interrogation, Qamar-uz-Zaman revealed that, he had visited Assam in August this year and met several people in Assam’s Hojai, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Barpeta districts.

“Qamar-uz-Zaman also met some leaders of two Assam based organisations and contacted some other people of Meghalaya, Nagaland during his last visit to Assam,” a top Assam police official said.
