Why PM Modi is silent? Rahul Gandhi questions on MJ Akbar issue

Bhopal, Oct 16 (IBNS): Attacking the Prime Minister over the sexual allegation charges made against Union Minister MJ Akbar, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday questioned the silence of Narendra Modi on the matter.

Gandhi also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan while targeting him over the allegation made against Akbar.

Gandhi even targeted the PM and said  the slogan should be changed to 'Beti Padhao, BJP ke netaonse, mantrionse, MLAs se beti bachao' (save the daughter from BJP leaders, ministers, and MLAs).

Gandhi was addressing a rally in Sheopur district of the state when he made the remarks.

"Modi ji says Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao but when allegations are made against his own minister then he remains silent on the matter," Gandhi said.

Gandhi is currently campaigning in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

MJ Akbar on Monday filed a defamation case against journalist Priya Ramani, days after she accused him of sexual misconduct.

Amid accusations of sexual harassment by several women journalists, Junior Foreign Minister MJ Akbar, who returned to India on Sunday, denied all allegations and called them 'false and fabricated'.

"The allegations of misconduct made against me are false and fabricated, spiced up by innuendo and malice. I could not reply earlier as I was on an official tour abroad. Accusation without evidence has become a viral fever among some sections," Akbar said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Akbar slammed the Congress government and said it is only campaigning to defame India.

He tweeted: "A Brookings study says that about 44 people are coming out of poverty every minute in India. A large credit goes to Modi Government's implementation of National Food Security Act which covers 80 crore people. But Congress cannot see this and continues its campaign defaming India. "
