Kolkata, Oct 24 (IBNS): Police on Tuesday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a 100-year-old woman at Gangaprasadpur village under Chakdah Police Station limits in Nadia district of West Bengal, reports said on Wednesday.

According to reports, the victim and her family members alleged that their 20-year-old neighbour, Abhijit Biswas, raped and tortured the century-old woman inside her bedroom on Sunday midnight.

The victim lady was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital at Kalyani and she was discharged from the hospital later on Wednesday.

Sources in the hospital claimed that rape and sexual assault of the 100-year-old had been confirmed in the medical examination.

Local police, however, have started investigation into the incident and arrested the accused youth.

"Based on a complaint lodged by victim's family, we have initiated a probe into the matter and arrested accused youth, Abhijit Biswas," a local police official told IBNS.

"We have recorded the statement of the victim lady while during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that he had committed the crime in drunken state," the official added.

The accused was produced in a local court on Wednesday and he was remanded to police custody.
