Guwahati, Oct 26 (IBNS): The Assam Pradesh Congress on Friday staged protest and gheraoed the CBI office in Guwahati against the centre’s move to remove CBI director Alok Verma of his powers.

The protest was led by former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi.

Hundreds of Congress workers took part in the demonstration.

The Congress workers had sent a memorandum to the President of India through the Kamrup (Metro) district Deputy Commissioner.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora said that, the agitation programme has been held across the country and today we have gheraoed the CBI office in Guwahati also.

“The Modi government degrading the autonomy of CBI, the premier investigating agency of the nation,” Ripun Bora said.

On the other hand, former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said that, the Modi-government is misusing the CBI and it is an unconstitutional act.

“Whatever was happened everyone knew it and it has never happen in the nation’s history,” Gogoi said.
