Suspected ULFA (I) militants kill five people in Assam’s Tinsukia district

Guwahati, Nov 1 (IBNS): At least five people were killed and one injured in suspected ULFA (I) militants attack in Assam’s Tinsukia district at around 7-45 pm on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident took place at Kherabari area under Sadiya assembly constituency in the Upper Assam district.

Sources said that, six youths were picked up by suspected ULFA (I) militants and were shot in line.

The deceased persons have been identified as Abinash Biswas, Ananta Biswas, Subal Das, Dhananjay Namusudra and Shyamal Biswas.

Top police officials have rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal strongly condemned the killing of innocent people in Tinsukia district.

Taking strong note of the dastardly incident, the Assam CM directed Water Resources Minister Keshav Mahanta and Minister of State (Power) Topon Kumar Gogoi to immediately proceed to the incident site to take stock of the situation.

He also asked DGP Kula Saikia and ADGP Mukesh Agarwalla to rush to the site to tackle the situation.

The Assam CM further said that perpetrators of the crime would be dealt with firm hand.

He also directed all Deputy Commissioners and SPs to remain alert.

Moreover, the Chief Minister also condoled the death of the innocent people and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families of the deceased.
