Arunachal Pradesh: Security forces apprehend five NDFB (S) and two NSCN (R) militants
Guwahati, Nov 16 (IBNS): Security forces have apprehended five hardcore militants of banned outfit NDFB (S), including three women militants and two NSCN (R) militants, in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday night, officials said on Friday.
Security personnel nabbed the militants when they were trying to enter India from Myanmar and also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from them.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, to maintain peace and tranquility in the region troops of security forces under the aegis of DAO Division have been carrying out relentless operations.
“In the run up to ULFA(I) Protest Day on November 27, in two separate operations the Jairampur Battalion and Changlang Battalion of the Assam Rifles along with army apprehended five NDFB (S) militanst and two militants of NSCN(R) on Thursday night,” Colonel Konwer said.
The Assam Rifles troops had apprehended five NDFB (S) militants from Old Khamdo village in Changlang district while they were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory and escape to Upper Assam.
The nabbed NDFB (S) militants were identified as Biswajit Basumatray alias B Birsha, Birkhang Basumatray alias B Bwsrang, Divika Muchhary alias M Daobaisuli, Sampa Basumatray alias Sarfao and Dwimu Brahma alias B Dwijiri.
Large number of arms and ammunition, including four pistols and one carbine along with other incriminating evidence, were recovered from them.
In a similar operation launched by the Changlang battalion, two militants of NSCN(R) were apprehended from Ledo and Margherita area in Tinsukia district.
Acting on specific intelligence about presence of likely militants trying to terrorize and carryout extortion in Ledo and Margherita, two NSCN(R) militants were apprehended and they were identified as Seraj Khan and Sibu Pradhan.
On questioning the duo confessed to carrying out extortion on behalf of NSCN(R).
