Sitaram Kesri was not allowed to complete his term as Congress president: Narendra Modi
Mahasamund, Nov 18 (IBNS): Visiting poll-bound Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi legacy as he alleged that Dalit leader Sitaram Kesri was not allowed to complete his term and 'thrown out' from his office to make the way for Sonia Gandhi to be the chief of the party.
Kesri served as the Congress president from 1996-1998.
Modi said: "Everyone knows what the Congress did to Sitaram Kesri Ji when he was the Congress party president. I challenge the Congress to select someone capable as their party president who doesn't belong to that one family."
Thank you Mahasamund for joining the BJP rally in large numbers. Here is my speech. https://t.co/upwZa4kUgH

Modi alleged that the Congress never thought about the welfare of people during their tenure.
He said: "Remember the days, when four generations of Congress ruled the country. What was the fate of people? They only thought about welfare of one family but never gave a thought about welfare of people. How can we trust them that they will fulfill aspirations of people now."
He said the Congress only make 'fake promises'.
"Congress makes fake promises. They must answer what they did for welfare of our farmers when they ruled for four generations. They kept the farmers in distress. If they would have strengthened the farmers, fulfilled their requirements, our farmers would have been prosperous," he said.
The first phase of Assembly polls in the state was held on Nov 12.
The second phase of voting will take place on Nov 20.
