Three hardcore NSCN militants killed in encounter with Assam Rifles troops in Arunachal Pradesh
Guwahati, Nov 18 (IBNS): Three hardcore militants of Naga outfit NSCN were killed in a gun fight with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district in past 48 hours.
According to the reports, based on intelligence input about presence of militants in Old Laptang, Laptang and Bourduria village under Khonsa police station in Tirap district, the troops of Assam Rifles Khonsa battalion had launched massive operations in the remote area.
The security personnel had launched operation in the remote area on Saturday.
During the gun fight, three hardcore militants were killed.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that, to maintain peace and tranquility in the region troops of security forces under the aegis of DAO division have been carrying out relentless operations.
"Acting on reports regarding presence of NSCN insurgents attempting extortion in Tirap district, the Khonsa battalions of Security Forces launched a well coordinated operation resulting in killing of three insurgents of NSCN in three different encounters on Saturday and Sunday near old Laptang, Laptang and Bourduria villages," Colonel Konwar said.
Two of the insurgents have been identified as Self Styled Major Joiwang Mongchan and Ponngam Kamhua Alias Vicky, identity of the third insurgent is being determined.
Security personnel had recovered two HK33 automatic rifle, one AK series assault rifle, large quantities of ammunition and other incriminating evidence from the slain insurgents.
