New Delhi, Nov 30 (IBNS): The Congress on Friday appointed former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin as the working president of its Telangana unit.
Azhar, 55, who had joined the Congress in 2009, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh the same year. He had lost in the 2014 elections the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency in Rajasthan.
The stylist batsman captained the national team in 47 Test matches and 174 One Day Internationals.
His career ended in the match-fixing scandal of 2000 when the ICC and the BCCI banned him for life. The ban was later revoked in 2006.
India Today, citing sources, said Azhar wants to contest the next general elections from Secunderabad. Azhar is from Hyderabad.
